Formulation and Evaluation of Herbal Ointment Containing Eucalyptus Oil and Turmeric Extract
Main Article Content
Abstract
Most antibiotics were originally derived from microorganisms while the natural medicinal compounds are from plants. Herbal medicine refers to using any plant's seeds, berries, roots, leaves, bark, or flowers for medicinal purposes. Along with other dosage forms, herbal drugs are also formulated as ointments. An ointment is a viscous semisolid preparation used topically on a variety of body surfaces. The objective of the study was to formulate and evaluate turmeric and eucalyptus oil containing anti-inflammatory and antiseptic herbal ointment from the local medicinal plants. The ethanolic extracts of the selected plants were taken in different ratios randomly. The ointment base was prepared and the formulation of the ointment was done by incorporating the active ingredients in the most effective ratio in the base by trituration. After completion of formulation, it was evaluated for its physiochemical parameters like PH, Spreadability, Extrudation, washability, and solubility. Also, the formulation was evaluated for its stability at different temperature conditions which shows no change in spreadability. Thus it could become a medium to use the medicinal properties of herbs effectively and easily in a simple dosage form.
