Abstract

While attraction of destination, infrastructure and safety are three key components in success of tourism product the fourth pillar and equally important one is availability of trained and quality man-power as tourism service provider. With the inevitable exponential growth in tourism arrivals and the target of 25 million international tourist arrivals by the year 2030, India will require a huge number of trained man-power in hospitality and allied sectors. This manifests a challenge as well as opportunity for policy making.  The challenge in the form of enhancing the capacity for skill training is being addressed through involvement of public and private sector. National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology (NCHMCT), an autonomous body under Ministry of Tourism, is at forefront of generating skilled manpower in hospitality sector through its more than 90 affiliated institutes spread all across the country. Programmes running from certificate to post graduation level with B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration being its flagship program, NCHMCT and its affiliated IHMs are the main feeder source for professional man power in tourism hospitality sector besides many private institutes under universities and AICTE.
